You guys!!!!

I’m teaming up with my favorite company to give away my favorite kitchen tool in the world…a Vitamix A3500 Blender! That’s right! One of YOU can win the best blender on the market, just in time for Mother’s Day!

I created this delicious, easy and FUN Homemade Chia Pudding Finger Paint recipe to demonstrate just how awesome it is to own a Vitamix! With it I can be super creative and make healthy alternatives for my favorite childhood recipes, like this one!

Have you ever heard of pudding finger paint? When I was a kid my aunt was an art teacher, so she always thought of the best projects for us to do on cold, rainy days! One of which, was pudding finger paint! Using pudding instead of real paint is like 5,000 times better because you get to eat the paint instead of having to wipe it off on a paper towel!

The version I grew up with was made with instant pudding and food coloring. However, now that I have my own kids, I try to avoid pre-packaged foods and dyes as much as possible! Enter this Homemade Chia Pudding Finger Paint! It is super healthy, yummy and dyed with fresh fruits and vegetables only!

This Homemade Chia Pudding Finger Paint is also a super fun recipe to make with your kids! Mine always love helping when I make recipes in the Vitamix! They enjoy pushing the buttons, pouring, mixing, etc.! One of the great things about the A3500 is that it has a clear lid, so the kids can watch the vortex spin ’round and ’round as it blends! 🙂

I also have to take a moment and mention the blending cups and blending bowls used in this recipe! Ever since I got them I have been obsessed! I use them all the time to make small batches of baby food, salad dressings, chia pudding, etc. etc. They are like the missing puzzle piece in my kitchen that I never knew I needed, but now couldn’t imagine living without! They are only compatible with the Ascent series blender, which is why we are giving one away today!

If you want to enter the giveaway {like why would you NOT?!} scroll to the end of the post to see all the different ways you can enter! Fingers crossed for all of you! 🙂

How to make Pudding Finger Paint

If you watch the video below, you will see the step-by-step process of making this recipe! However here are a few notes:

  1. Large/small containers. This recipe calls for using the large container that comes with every Vitamix blender to make the pudding base, and then using the small blending bowls and personal cup adaptors to make four colors. If you do not have these accessories, you may need to stop blending, stir the mixture around with a spatula, and then continue mixing when you make the filling, depending on the model of Vitamix you own!
  2. Chilling. This pudding sets up pretty fast. And since the goal is to use it as finger paint, as long as it’s gelatinous enough for your kids to scoop it with their fingers, you should be good to go! I think it tastes the best after it has been chilled for at least one hour!
  3. Storage. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator!
  4. Finger painting. I used fancy little paint pallets for photo purposes…however my favorite way to divvy them up is by giving each child a muffin tin and putting one color in each well!

Homemade Chia Pudding Finger Paint: Substitutions

Here’s a list of some potential substitutions that could be made in this recipe

  • Almond milk. Any milk works great in this recipe! I have also used regular 2% milk with great results!
  • Liquid sweetener. I opted for honey, if you’d like to keep it vegan use maple syrup, agave, brown rice syrup, etc.
  • White chia seeds. I made this recipe using regular, black chia seeds and white chia seeds. Both work well…however the white yields much prettier colors (see the video below)!
  • Fruits/Vegetables. Really you can let your imagination run wild here. However one thing I do recommend is using whole fruits. I tested this recipe with powders and freeze-dried fruits and it did not work. You need to use whole fruits and veggies to yield great colors!

Ingredients

Vanilla Chia Pudding:

Natural Fruit Colors:

  • pink: ¼ cup strawberries
  • green: ¼ cup spinach
  • blue: ¼ cup blueberries
  • orange: ¼ cup cooked pureed sweet potato

Instructions

Chia pudding base:

  • Put all of the ingredients in the order listed into the container of your Vitamix
  • Blend starting on low speed and gradually increasing to high, until the mixture is smooth. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender and continue blending!
  • Once mixture is smooth, pour it into a large bowl and set aside.

Making Colors:

  • Measure out ½ cup of the vanilla chia pudding base and pour it into a small blending cup or blending bowl.
  • Blend starting at low speed, gradually increasing to high, until the mixture is smooth.
  • Add ¼ cup of the fruit/vegetable of your choice.
  • Close the blending cup/bowl and place it on the blender base.
  • Remove and transfer to jars or muffin tins (I like to put one color in each well of a muffin tin)!
  • Give your kids blank pieces of paper and let them have fun!
  • Repeat with remaining colors.
  • Put the chia pudding finger paints in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
