Return the mixture to a boil and boil for 1 minute.
Turn off the heat, and cover.
Let sit for 10 minutes, covered on the warm burner.
After 10 minutes, stir/fluff with a wooden spoon.
To Make Flavors
Stir your desired flavor combination's ingredients into 1 cup of warm, cooked oatmeal. Then serve warm.

Old-fashioned oatmeal. You can use quick cooking oatmeal as well. Steel cut oatmeal has a different cooking method so I don't suggest that as a substitute here.
Water. You can cook the oatmeal in milk if you'd prefer, or use half milk half water.
Store/FreezeStore cooked oatmeal without toppings (or with, but we prefer to store it without), in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
