These oatmeal muffins chocolate chip muffins are moist with hearty oats and lots of chocolate chips. They're a delicious breakfast your whole family will love!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius)
Grease a standard 12-cup muffin tin. Set aside.
Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sea salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl, set aside.
Whisk the sour cream, melted butter, applesauce, milk brown sugar, eggs and vanilla together in a large bowl.
Add the dry ingredients and whisk or stir to combine.
Stir in the oatmeal and chocolate chips, and let the batter rest for 5 minutes so the oats can absorb some of the liquid. Or you can store it in the fridge overnight and bake in the morning.
Pour ¼ cup batter into each well of the prepared muffin tin.
Bake the muffins for 17-19 minutes, or until the tops spring back when touched, the edges are slightly brown and a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let them cool in the muffin pans for 20 minutes before removing with a spoon or sharp knife.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ingredient Substitution Notes
All-purpose flour. make them gluten-free by using a 1:1 all-purpose gluten-free flour blend. You can substitute up to half of the flour with whole wheat pastry flour.
Sour cream. full-fat Greek yogurt or plain yogurt work well too.
Salted butter. Unsalted butter, coconut oil, and canola oil are all potential substitutes.
Applesauce. mashed banana or sweet potato can be used in place of applesauce.
Whole Milk. you can use half and half, 2% milk or coconut milk.
Light brown sugar. For a richer molasses taste, use dark brown sugar.
Quick cooking oats. if you don't have quick oats, pulse old-fashioned oats in the blender a couple times, then use in this recipe.
Chocolate chips. Use your favorite variety - milk, dark or semisweet. Or use different mix-ins like nuts, dried fruit, etc.
