This Ham and Cheese Sliders recipe is an easy & delicious meal to feed a crowd. A homemade honey mustard sauce is spread inside sweet rolls, which are filled with ham and Swiss cheese, then topped with a delicious glaze & baked.

Ham and cheese sliders are a delicious, kid-friendly lunch or dinner recipe that’s easy to make, and perfect for entertaining.

In this ham and Swiss sliders recipe, a homemade honey mustard sauce is spread inside the sliders, adding an extra layer of flavor that makes this recipe uniquely delicious.

Then, ham and Swiss cheese are layered between the sweet rolls, and the whole thing is smothered in an irresistibly buttery glaze and baked to golden-brown, bubbly perfection.

Serve with a salad for a delicious lunch or dinner.

Ham and Cheese Sliders: Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Rolls. The most common buns used in this recipe are the Hawaiian sweet rolls. You can use homemade dinner rolls, or regular dinner rolls that are not sweet and this recipe will still taste amazing. I prefer the Whole Foods 365 Hawaiian rolls over the more popular brand.
  • Ham. Use leftover ham from the holidays, or buy your favorite deli ham.
  • Swiss cheese. If Swiss isn’t your favorite, so many other cheese varieties taste great in these sliders: cheddar, Pepper Jack, etc.
  • Honey Mustard Sauce. You can just use store-bought honey mustard if you prefer, but I really love this sauce as-is.
  • Dijon mustard. Use your favorite variety if you don’t love Dijon.
  • Salted Butter. unsalted butter is a good substitute.

How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders

We’ll walk through this ham and Swiss sliders recipe together, and don’t forget to watch the video.

Make the Honey Mustard Sauce

Spreading honey mustard sauce on the inside of the buns is the step that sets these ham sliders apart from the rest. To make the sauce, just combine the 3 ingredients together in a small bowl.

Make the Glaze

Then, make the glaze by whisking the glaze ingredients together in a medium bowl. I usually do it in a glass pyrex container so I can melt the butter in the microwave first, then whisk in the rest of the ingredients.

Assemble the Ham & Cheese Sliders

Once the sauces are ready, it’s time to assemble the sliders. Begin by cutting the entire batch of rolls in half lengthwise (NOT individually) โ€“ so you have two pieces, or “sheets” of rolls, a top and bottom.

Then, spread the honey mustard sauce evenly over the top of the bottom layer.

Note about pan size: The most common Hawaiian sweet rolls are 7โ€x 9โ€ and fit perfectly in an 8×12โ€ pan. You can use a 9×13โ€ pan (more common) and there will be extra space around the rolls. If doubling this recipe, it fits perfectly on a standard baking sheet.

Next, put a layer of Swiss cheese over the mustard sauce, then a layer of ham

Then, add another layer of Swiss then another layer of ham (half in each layer), for a total of 4 layers.

Next, put the top of the buns over the ham and cheese and pour the glaze over the rolls.

Use a silicone brush to distribute the glaze evenly over the rolls.

Bake & Cool

Once the ham sliders are assembled, cover the pan with foil and bake for 20 minutes.

Then, remove the foil from the pan and bake for an additional 15 minutes, uncovered, or until the cheese is melted and top is lightly brown.

Serve

Let cool slightly and serve warm with your favorite side dishes. I recommend some delicious salads or side dishes:

Store

Store leftover ham and cheese sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

Reheat int he microwave, or in the oven set to warm.

Can I double this recipe?

Yes, I often double the recipe for company. To do this, double the ingredient and bake bake the sliders on a 13×18โ€ baking sheet.

How to make ham and cheese sliders without poppyseed?

If you prefer not to use poppyseeds, simply omit them from the glaze and proceed with the recipe as written.

Why are my sliders soggy on the bottom?

Make sure to pour the glaze on just before you put the sliders in the oven. Don’t let them sit in the glaze or the bottom will become soggy. Also, bake them on the bottom rack of the oven.

Do you cover sliders when baking?

Yes, bake them covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for 15 minutes.

How many sliders per person for a party?

If you’re feeding adults, plan on 2 sliders per person. If there are lots of kids attending the party, I plan on 1.5 sliders per person to account for the fact that some kids will eat less than one, and some adults will eat more.

How do you keep sliders warm before serving?

Keep them covered, or set them on a warming plate.

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Lightly grease a 8×12โ€ pan.

Make the honey mustard sauce

  • In a small bowl stir together mayonnaise, mustard and honey. Set aside.

Make the glaze:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the glaze ingredients, set aside.

Assemble the sandwiches.

    At which point do you cut them into individual servings? It seems if you just pull them apart it would drag out whole slices of ham, etc. Thank you so much! This sounds delicious.

    1. Cut them after removing them from the oven and letting them cool slightly. I cut them in the baking dish.
