This layered greek dip is one of my favorite appetizer recipes, along with whipped feta dip and homemade hummus!

It’s easy to make in ten minutes, and you can even prepare it in advance – which means less work on the day of a BBQ or party! And trust me, every time I make this dish for a crowd it disappears fast!

It’s fresh, light and absolutely bursting with flavor! Serve it with homemade pita bread, naan bread, pita chips, pretzels or veggies.

Layered Greek Dip: Ingredients & Substitutions

As always, I recommend making this greek dip recipe exactly as written, however there are a few possible substitutions that can be made with great results.

  • Garlic powder. 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic works well in place of ¼ teaspoon garlic powder.
  • Onion powder. 2 Tablespoons finely diced onion works well in place of the onion powder.
  • Kalamata olives. black or green olives can work in a pinch ini place of kalamata olives.
  • Hummus. make your own homemade hummus or use your favorite store-bought variety.

How to Make Layered Greek Dip Recipe

Let’s walk through how to make greek dip together, and as always you can watch the video for additional guidance. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments section.

First, make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature before making this recipe. Cold cream cheese does not mix well.

Then, beat the cream cheese, spices and lemon juice in a standing mixer fitted with the paddle attachement, or in a large bowl with a handheld mixer, until smooth.

Choose a serving dish

I prefer using a glass dish with a lid to use to serve this layered greek dip so you can see the layers and store it easily. However you can choose your favorite dish, including a 10″ round pie plate.

Then, assemble the layered greek dip. First, spread the cream cheese mixture into the bottom of your preferred serving dish.

Then, gently and evenly spread the hummus over the cream cheese.

Next, add the cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, feta and herbs one at a time. Make sure to evenly spread each ingredient over the one that came before it.

It’s also important to make sure the cucumbers and tomatoes are diced into bite-sized pieces.

Reduce Water

It’s important to remove as much water from the ingredients as possible to keep this easy greek dip from becoming soggy and watery.

  • Tomatoes. remove the seeds and insides from the tomatoes so they don’t release too much water.
  • Olives. Be sure to drain the Kalamata olives thoroughly. Patting them dry with a paper towel is also a great idea.

If you’d like, garnish the top of the dip with chopped fresh dill and parsley (or choose your favorite fresh herb).

Then, chill the greek dip for at least 2 hours before serving. You can even prepare it the day before and chill it overnight.

Serve

Serve this layered greek dip with your favorite dippers like pita bread, homemade naan bread, pita chips, and fresh veggies.

It’s a great appetizer for your favorite mediterranean recipes like grilled Greek chicken, Greek meatballs and more.

Store

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, or cover the serving dish in plastic wrap, for up to 3 days. I don’t recommend freezing this recipe.

Oh my gosh, I love that your husband’s new year’s resolution was to ask you to make more dips hahaha!
That being said, he was right!! This is one of my favorite dips! My grandmother makes something like this too but never uses cream cheese. Think we might have to change that next time 😉

  2. Ooh this looks so good! That’s amazing that Gabe liked hummus at such a young age. I’ve never seen a layered Greek dip before, but Greek flavors are DELICIOUS.
