I was born & raised in Chicago, and started working at a local pizza restaurant when I was 14 – so I learned to appreciate great pizza from a very young age. This sausage pizza recipe is pizzeria quality but made in the comfort of your own home!

This recipe is made using my homemade pizza dough and homemade pizza sauce so it takes 30 minutes to make. It’s loaded with sausage and mozzarella cheese and is so delicious you may never order pizza again! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Pizza dough. I suggest this homemade pizza dough, but store-bought works well too.
  • Pizza Sauce. this is the best homemade pizza sauce! You can use store-bought, if desired.
  • Italian Sausage. choose your favorite, mild, medium, spicy, etc. .
  • Mozzarella cheese. You can substitute some of the mozzarella with different cheese varieties like cheddar, but mozzarella yields the most authentic taste. You can also add a sprinkle of parmesan on top.

How to Make Sausage Pizza

Let’s walk through this sausage pizza recipe together, and don’t forget to watch the video.

Begin by cooking the sausage. You can do this in advance to save time. Either crumble the sausage into a nonstick skillet or form 1 tsp balls of sausage with your hands and drop them into a nonstick skillet.

Then, cook the sausage over medium-high heat until browned, stirring often. If crumbling the sausage, be sure to break it into smaller pieces as you cook it.

Now it’s time to assemble the sausage pizza. Begin by rolling out the pizza dough into a 14โ€ circle on a piece of parchment paper (for easy transfer to the pizza stone).

Use a pizza peel to transfer the pizza on the parchment paper onto the baking stone in the oven.

Sausage Pizza before baking

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Once the sausage pizza has finished cooking, transfer it from the oven (using the pizza peel) to a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.

After it has cooled slightly, cut the sausage pizza with pizza scissors or transfer to a large cutting board and use a pizza cutter, and serve.

Serve

I suggest serving this pizza with a salad like burrata salad, panzanella salad, spinach salad, or kale salad.

You can also sprinkle the top with crushed red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese. Most of my family likes to dip our pizza in ranch dressing!
