Thisย healthyย Strawberry Banana Smoothie that tastes even more delicious than my the smoothies I knew and loved as a kid – but it’s made with nutritious ingredients.
This is truly the best strawberry banana smoothie recipe ever! It’s so easy to make in only 5 minutes (or less)! It uses just a touch of honey as the sweetener and it’s loaded with whole fruits. It’s also made with yogurt, making it rich in protein and super creamy.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions
- Milk. Any dairy or non-dairy milk can be used with great results. We usually use whole milk or almond milk.
- Honey. Maple syrup or agave are good substitutes.
- Strawberries. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries in this recipe.
- Banana. Make sure the banana is frozen for the best, creamiest results.
- Yogurt. Greek yogurt is my preference for its high protein and lower sugar content. I also love Icelandic yogurt because it is thick and creamy. I recommend using a vanilla flavored Greek yogurt for the best taste. If you use a plain variety of yogurt you may need to use more honey to get the sweetness just right!.
Adding Spinach
Adding 1 cup of spinach with the fruit, doesn’t change the taste or texture of the smoothie – however it does turn the smoothie brown.ย
Add Protein Powder
If you’d like to add more protein without effecting the flavor at all, I’d recommend adding a scoop of unflavored collagen protein! To intensify the vanilla flavor you can also add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Let’s walk through how to make strawberry banana smoothie step-by-step! As long as you have a blender and all the ingredients on hand, this smoothie can literally come together in 3 minutes flat. Don’t forget to watch the video.
Begin by putting the ingredients into the container of your blender in the order listed. Always add liquid first to ensure a smooth blend.
Use a VItamix
For the creamiest smoothies that are still thick and cold – use a Vitamix blender. Also, check out my Vitamix Buying Guide.
Next, secure the lid and blend. Start on low speed and increase to high.
Blend on high speed for 30-60 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth. If using a Vitamix, use the tamper to push the ingredients down into the blades to achieve the best consistency (especially if you are using frozen fruit).
Serve
Pour the strawberry banana smoothie into two or four glasses and enjoy as a healthy snack or as part of a nutritious breakfast.
My kids and husband all rave about this healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie. They loved it and guzzled down every last drop. For a fun twist, add some homemade whipped cream on top.

I tried this.
I used less yogurt than it said, and it was. So. Good.
I am so grateful for this website!
Keep up the good work!
Hi, I love this smoothie! I made this smoothie today and froze the rest (since I couldnโt throw it away, it was too good!). How long can this smoothie stay in the freezer?
You can freeze leftovers for up to 1 month.
I have been looking for a quick and easy smoothie recipe. I made this one, substituting plain yogurt for the vanilla (not greek) and used the frozen strawberries and banana by Great Value, (measured out two cups combined) and it’s awesome! Thick and creamy, poured a cup for me, then put the rest in the freezer for breakfast next week.
I’m so glad you love the recipe, Teresa!
Can you use chia seeds?
Yes! You can add 1-2 TBS of chia seeds for some extra protein!
Oh my goodness! This smoothie is amazing! My whole family loves it! I tend to shy away from smoothies with banana because the banana is usually overpowering, but not here at all! Itโs perfectly blended with the strawberries and the whole thing is so creamy. Yum! One thing I did substitute is grapes for honey. Grapes add a natural sweetener like the honey but you canโt taste them. I used about a 1/2 cup of grapes.
Thanks for sharing this recipe! Itโs going into my smoothie staples!
Thank you Katrina! I’m so glad you love it!!
This smoothie is my new obsession. I looked for the right smoothie recipe for a long time! Although I LOVE fruit and all of the natural sweeteners a smoothie with no additives just wasn’t enough for me. This recipe is just right. It’s delicious I make it almost daily. I freeze it too and thaw it out later! Yummm thank you.
P.S. I despise protein powder, but I am able to add it in with this recipe and it really helps.
Thank you Cloe!!
How much spinach would you add to this recipe
Iโd start with 1 cup fresh spinach and see how you like it!
What a great idea to put Vanilla Extract in there Iโve never done that before & it was perfect!
It’s like a beautiful vanilla strawberry milkshake. ๐
Thank you Emily! <3
Would you mind sharing what kind of vanilla Greek yogurt you use? We love smoothies, too!
Of course!! I always buy Greek Gods honey vanilla yogurt! http://www.greekgodsyogurt.com/24oz-products/vanilla-honey/
Can you use water ?
I guess technically you could….but it wonโt be as creamy or flavorful. I donโt recommend it!
