Coffee ice cubes are an easy way to make iced coffee, cold brew coffee, or coffee smoothies without diluting them with regular ice!
Whenever I order an iced beverage at my favorite coffee shop, I always ask for “very light ice” because I don’t like my coffee watered down as the ice melts. This is why, at home, I always have coffee ice cubes on hand.
Using coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice ensures your delicious beverages won’t be watered down. Since they are made with coffee, they release more flavor into your drink instead of diluting it.
Why coffee shops don’t adopt this practice is a mystery to me! However, you can make superior iced coffee or cold brew coffee in the comfort of your own home with these simple coffee ice cubes.
Coffee Ice Cubes: Ingredients & Equipment
- Brewed coffee. I use leftover brewed coffee or cold brew to make these. You can also make instant coffee and freeze it if you’re short on time.
- Ice cube tray. I have been using these silicone ice cube trays to make baby food and coffee ice cubes forever. I adore these because they have a firm rim and a lid, making them easy to transport and store.
How to Make Coffee Ice Cubes
This “recipe” is so easy to make I almost feel silly writing a post about it. But, they are such an important component to some delicious drink recipes that I wanted to make sure to share my tips with you.
First, brew strong coffee or use cold brew coffee. Then, pour it into silicone ice cube trays or regular ice cube trays, leaving a little room at the top for the ice cubes to expand as they freeze.
Once each well is full, put the lid on top of the ice cube tray and transfer it to the freezer until completely frozen (about 6 hours or overnight).
Once the coffee ice cubes are completely frozen, remove them from the ice cube trays.
Then, transfer them to an airtight container to store. I put them in my stasher bags, but you can use an airtight container with a lid.
Serve
I suggest using these coffee ice cubes in your favorite cold coffee beverages alongside our delicious breakfast recipes.
Some suggestions include iced coffee, cold brew coffee, coffee smoothies, iced lattes, etc.
Store/Freeze
Store coffee ice cubes in an airtight container (I use a Stasher bag) in the freezer for up to 4 months. Or, you can keep them in the ice cube tray if you don’t need to use it for a different purpose.
Coffee Ice Cubes Recipe FAQS
About 6 hours, depending on the size of your cubes.
I suggest a bold, strongly brewed coffee for the best results.
