I’m not sure there’s a more classic smoothie flavor than a strawberry banana smoothie (ok, maybe a green smoothie – they’re both iconic)!

But I enjoyed strawberry banana smoothies long before I entered the green smoothie phase of life! All of my memories of strolling through the mall in my tween-teen years involve shopping with a strawberry banana smoothie in one hand and my purse in the other.

So, of course I created a strawberry banana smoothie recipe that tastes even more delicious than mall smoothies and is made with way better ingredients. Some of the key players are: a touch of honey for natural sweetness, whole fruits and creamy, protein-packed greek yogurt. Plus, it’s so easy to make in only 5 minutes (or less)! I

Strawberry Banana Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Milk. Almond milk, whole milk, and 2% milk are all great choices.
  • Honey. Maple syrup or agave work well in place of honey.
  • Strawberries. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries in this recipe – but I recommend frozen for the thickest, creamiest smoothie.
  • Frozen Banana. you can use room-temperature banana, but the smoothie won’t be as thick.
  • Vanilla Greek Yogurt. for the best flavor, use a vanilla yogurt. I use greek but Icelandic is also a good choice. If you use a plain yogurt (not vanilla flavored) you may just need to add more honey to achieve your desired sweetness.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie: Add-Ins

There are a handful of nutrition boosters you can add to this smoothie, here are a few:

  • Spinach, kale, greens. You can add up to 1 cup of spinach, kale or mixed greens and it will not change the taste or texture of the smoothie at all. It will change the color and it won’t be pink.
  • Protein Powder. If you’d like to add more protein without effecting the flavor at all, I’d recommend adding a scoop of unflavored collagen protein! To intensify the vanilla flavor you can also add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
  • Chia seeds. for extra protein and fiber add 1 Tablespoon chia seeds.
  • Bee pollen. rich in antioxidants and nutrients, add 1-2 teaspoons.

How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Let’s walk through how to make strawberry banana smoothie step-by-step! As long as you have a blender and all the ingredients on hand, this smoothie can literally come together in 3 minutes flat. Don’t forget to watch the video.

Begin by putting the ingredients into the container of your blender in the order listed.

Always add liquid first to ensure a smooth blend.

Use a VItamix

For the creamiest smoothies that are still thick and cold – use a Vitamix blender. Also, check out my Vitamix Buying Guide.

Next, secure the lid and blend. Start on low speed and increase to high.

Blend on high speed for 30-60 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth. If using a Vitamix, use the tamper to push the ingredients down into the blades to achieve the best consistency (especially if you are using frozen fruit).

Serve

Pour the strawberry banana smoothie into two or four glasses and enjoy as a healthy snack or as part of a nutritious breakfast. I love to serve it with banana oatmeal cookies or baked oatmeal.

My kids and husband all love this smoothie. For a fun twist, you can add some homemade whipped cream on top.

Store/Freeze

If you want to store leftover smoothie, I suggest freezing it in a glass jar, but make sure you leave room at the top for the mixture to expand as it freezes.
