In my opinion, strawberry banana smoothies are the quintessential smoothie flavor.

All of my memories of strolling through the mall in my tween-teen years involved shopping with a strawberry banana smoothie in one hand and my purse in the other.

This healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie that tastes even more delicious than my the smoothies I knew and loved as a kid – but it’s made with nutritious ingredients.

This is truly the best strawberry banana smoothie recipe ever! It’s so easy to make in only 5 minutes (or less)! It uses just a touch of honey as the sweetener and it’s loaded with whole fruits. It’s also made with yogurt, making it rich in protein and super creamy.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Milk. Any dairy or non-dairy milk can be used with great results. We usually use whole milk or almond milk.
  • Honey. Maple syrup or agave are good substitutes.
  • Strawberries. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries in this recipe.
  • Banana. Make sure the banana is frozen for the best, creamiest results.
  • Yogurt. Greek yogurt is my preference for its high protein and lower sugar content. I also love Icelandic yogurt because it is thick and creamy. I recommend using a vanilla flavored Greek yogurt for the best taste. If you use a plain variety of yogurt you may need to use more honey to get the sweetness just right!.

Adding Spinach

Adding 1 cup of spinach with the fruit, doesn’t change the taste or texture of the smoothie – however it does turn the smoothie brown.

Add Protein Powder

If you’d like to add more protein without effecting the flavor at all, I’d recommend adding a scoop of unflavored collagen protein! To intensify the vanilla flavor you can also add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.

Use a VItamix

For the creamiest smoothies that are still thick and cold – use a Vitamix blender. Also, check out my Vitamix Buying Guide.

Next, secure the lid and blend. Start on low speed and increase to high.

Blend on high speed for 30-60 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth. If using a Vitamix, use the tamper to push the ingredients down into the blades to achieve the best consistency (especially if you are using frozen fruit).
