This yellow rice recipe is richly flavored with spices like turmeric, garlic, cumin, coriander and cilantro. Turmeric rice is easy to make in 30 minutes. It’s a vibrant, healthy side dish!

I keep this yellow rice recipe in my back pocket for whenever I need a hearty side dish that is quick and easy to make.

Seriously, this turmeric rice really is as easy as cooking rice – you can even just toss the ingredients in a rice cooker and let the magic happen.

But let’s not confuse easy with boring – because this turmeric rice is anything but boring! It’s an exciting combination of flavors and colors that will keep you coming back for more. Serve it alongside your favorite main dishes like chicken kebabs, Greek meatballs, etc.

Yellow Rice: Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Basmati rice. Or use long grain white rice. You can use brown rice, but it takes longer to cook (45-50 minutes ) and has a slightly nuttier taste.
  • Garlic powder/onion powder. If desired, you can cook ยฝ cup finely onion and 1 tablespoon minced garlic in the saucepan with 1 tablespoon olive oil, then add the broth, bring to a boil and proceed with the recipe – instead of using powders.
  • Chicken broth. water works in place of chicken broth.

How to Make Yellow Rice

Let’s walk through this recipe together, and don’t forget to watch the video.

Begin by combining the rice, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, turmeric, coriander, sea salt and pepper in a small bowl, then set it aside.

Next, bring the chicken broth (or water) to a boil in a 5-quart saucepan.

Once boiling, add the rice mixture, cover and return to a boil.

Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer and simmer (covered) until the rice is cooked (about 20 minutes)

After the rice is cooked, turn off the heat.

Then, stir in the cilantro.

Next, cover the pan and let it rest on the warm burner for 5-10 minutes. After 10 minutes, fluff the turmeric rice with a fork and serve warm

Store/Freeze
