This 5-ingredient grapefruit smoothie recipe is easy to make in less than 5 minutes with wholesome ingredients like grapefruit, frozen strawberries and honey.

This grapefruit smoothie recipe is a bright, refreshing way to enjoy grapefruit during it’s peak season (or all year round).
It’s loaded with vitamin C (from both grapefruit and frozen strawberries), and has a sunny citrus flavor making it the perfect winter smoothie.
If you love easy, feel-good smoothies that actually taste amazing, this grapefruit smoothie recipe is will definitely become a favorite (along with all my delicious healthy smoothie recipes).

Grapefruit Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions

- Grapefruit. I suggest using your favorite grapefruit. I use a 12 ounce fruit before peeling, which comes out to be about 6 ounces of grapefruit after peeling.
- Milk. Use your favorite. I suggest almond or coconut milk for the best results.
- Frozen Strawberries. Since grapefruit is in season at a different time of the year than strawberries, I use frozen berries instead of paying too much for fresh ones.
- Banana. I always suggest using a frozen banana to make a thick, cold, creamy smoothie without having to add ice.
- Honey. If you like a super tart smoothie, by all means you can omit the honey
- Mix-ins. You can add greek yogurt, chia seeds, bee pollen, spinach etc. to this smoothie to add more protein and nutrients.

How to Make a Grapefruit Smoothie
Like all my smoothie recipes, this one is very simple. Be sure to add the liquid (in this case, almond milk) first to ensure an easy blend.

Then add the grapefruit and frozen fruit and any mix-ins. I always add the honey last so it doesn’t get stuck to the bottom or sides of the blender.

Once your ingredients in the blending container, it’s time to blend. Start on low speed and increase to high, then blend on high speed for 30-50 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth.

Serve
Pour into glasses and serve immediately. This makes 2-4 smoothies depending on the appetite of those enjoying it.
I suggest serving this smoothie as part of a complete breakfast alongside more delicious healthy breakfast recipes like cottage cheese scrambled eggs, baked oatmeal and more.

Store/Freeze
Honestly, I recommend serving this grapefruit smoothie right away. If you want to save some for later, I suggest storing it in a glass jar with a lid (leaving a little room at the top for the smoothie to expand as it freezes) in the freezer. Thaw in the refrigerator.

Grapefruit Smoothie Recipe FAQS
Yes! Fresh grapefruit blends very well in smoothies. Just peel it and remove the seeds and any large sections of white pith.
For protein add 1/2 cup cottage cheese or greek yogurt. Or 1 Tablespoon chia seeds.
For greens – and up to 1 cup of fresh or frozen spinach, kale, or a blend of greens.
Other great additions include bee pollen and flaxseed.
Use ripe grapefruit, remove as much of the white pith as possible, and pair it with naturally sweet fruits like banana and strawberries. Then, add a little honey to balance the flavor and make it sweeter.
I don’t recommend this.
