This Blueberry Citrus Smoothie is made with 7 ingredients in 5 minutes. It is loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants so it's a great immune-boosting smoothie! Plus it's paleo, vegan, gluten and dairy-free with no added sweeteners.

I know smoothies seem like a summer food, but in reality they reach the height of their popularity between January and March (New Year's resolutions)! Fresh fruit can get pricey during the winter months, but frozen fruit is affordable all year long, and perfect to use in smoothies.

How to make the best green smoothies

Here are a few tips on making the best green smoothies.

Use frozen ingredients as much as possible

Using frozen ingredients ensures a thicker, creamier smoothie that's not diluted by adding ice. The only fruit I used that wasn't frozen was the orange and grapefruit!

    Use a Vitamix

This should go without saying, but to make the best smoothies you need to use a high-quality blender.

    Serve Immediately, or freeze

Green smoothies taste best when enjoyed immediately! If you ever have any leftovers, I recommend freezing them in ice cube trays and using them in your next smoothie.

Blueberry Citrus Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Protein powder: Choose your favorite vanilla, plant-based protein powder. I highly recommend Orgain. If you'd prefer not to use protein powder you can add chia seeds, hemp seeds, or ground flaxseed for a little added protein and fiber!
    • Almond Milk: Use any milk of your choice, dairy-free or regular dairy milk both work well.
    • Fruit: use your favorite berries or citrus fruit to make this green smoothie recipe your own.

    Recipe FAQs

Do I have to use frozen fruit?

I suggest frozen because it makes the smoothie thick and creamy without adding ice. You could use fresh if you don't mind a thinner smoothie.

    Can I double this recipe?

Yes, you can double the ingredients just be sure to use a large blending container.

Just made this smoothie for dinner and breakfast tomorrow since it was two servings. I love it!!! This is a keeper! Never liked blueberry smoothies so much but the addition of citrus was brilliant! I was low on spinach so I added avocado and it was divine! Can’t wait to try more of your recipes! Thanks for the inspiration!

This looks amazing. Do you use just the juice from the grapefruit and orange or do you put everything except the skin in the blender? I want to try this tomorrow morning! Your recipes are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Love the color and blueberry smoothies! I had a blueberry smoothie bowl every day for months last summer/fall. I've been craving them hard lately.
