Apple Cobbler: Ingredients & Substitutions

labeled ingredients in this Apple Cobbler Recipe

Apple Filling

  • Apples. Choose your favorite apple variety, I prefer a sweet/tart variety like pink ladies or granny smith.
  • Light brown sugar. Use dark brown sugar for a stronger molasses taste.
  • Granulated Sugar. You can substitute the granulated sugar with additional brown sugar.
  • All-purpose flour. Cornstarch or an all-purpose gluten-free flour blend both work well.

Cobbler Topping

  • All-purpose flour. cake flour is a good substitute. All-purpose gluten-free baking flour should work well too.
  • Salted butter. Unsalted butter works well.
  • Granulated sugar. use regular white sugar or organic cane sugar.
  • Salted Butter. Unsalted butter or vegan butter are good substitutes.
  • Whole Milk. 2% milk and half and half also work well.
  • Vanilla extract. This is one of the ingredients that makes this apple cobbler topping stand out from the rest. You could substitute vanilla bean paste or the seeds from one vanilla bean.

Make the Apple Cobbler filling:
